Squash Trellis

Well, I tried something new this year. I tried using a trellis for squash and cucumbers. As I was setting this up, I was wondering if it was actually going to work. Well, I can finally say that I think it does.

The idea is to take a "hog panel" (has thick wire you can't bend) and cut it to the desired length. You then measure the width of the panel and pound in a steele fencepost at the very edges of the panel. Set it up at an angle and wire to the posts. You are setting up a sort of half-teepee. Plant your squash or cucumbers so they will climb the panel. The idea is that the cucumbers and squash will hang below the panel making them easier to pick.

I thought that the squash especially would get too heavy and break off the vines. They are getting close to full size now and still haven't broke. I included a few pictures so show you, but it actually does work! I am sold on this one and will be doing it again next year.

PICTURES FINALLY!

So I am finally adding some pictures to my blog! Sorry it took me so long, but I do really have a good excuse! I grabbed my camera to take some pictures and realized that the screen had shattered! So I had to buy a new camera and get the memory card, etc. It takes a while when you don't get to Bismarck every day.

I wanted to post pictures to give you an idea of what my garden and produce look like. I posted pictures of my peas today. There are quite a few pods out there that aren't full yet. I just picked a handful of full ones last night and the rest should be ready to go later this week. I plan on freezing some of them and eating them of course! I will have to see how many I get this year!

We had creamed peas and new potatoes last night for supper. It was heavenly! If you have never had this, you are really missing out!
I will have more pictures later...

Just Starting!

Well...as you have probably figured out already, I love to garden!
I have a huge garden on our farm and I end up having lots of garden produce during the summer.
I decided to start this blog so I can enter the garden produce I have on hand now.
I do not have anything available yet, but everything has come up and is really starting to grow.
I know for sure that I will have lots of pickeling cucumbers and buttercup winter squash.
Stay tuned for more info and pictures!
